As long as I can remember I have been overweight, even as a early teenager I was always the fattest. Years ago I managed to lose 57 lbs but now 37 of them are back. And I hate it…
The Ellen in my head is thinner than the Ellen in real life. Seeing myself on pictures makes me sad, that’s not who I am on the inside!
I can live with the fact that I will never be a thin girl, but I can’t accept how fat I am now.
I mean, look at me! I hate myself looking like this:
It doesn’t feel like ‘me’.
Moving to LA gave me the opportunity to lose the weight again. I thought…
But to be honest it is hard. There is so much good food here and besides that… I love eating out and cooking at home. These past five months we’ve been eating out at least 2 times a week and how hard I tried (I thought…) I didn’t lose any weight.
But I also didn’t gain weight I have to say, so at least that is something to start with!
Talking this over and over again with my husband I decided I needed a drastic change, I needed a reset.
I had to change my eating habits and my thoughts about food. I really needed a break from my habits so that’s why I decided to order a 3-day Juice Cleanse. No food for three days, only six juices a day, no grocerie shopping, no cooking and no thinking about the possibilities what to prepare. Just a fridge full of raw juice:
The days before the juice cleanse you need to eliminate different foods from your diet so your body gets used to the raw juices. And understandable, the days after the cleanse you need to build up solid foods again. C’mon, even if you want to you can’t eat a fat hamburger and drink a cocktail after detoxing. I can imagine that hurts your stomach big time!
I really liked this detox! I took some time off to focus on my eating habits and to read a (Dutch) book called ‘slim people’s secret‘. I also didn’t felt as fat and bloated as I normally feel and more important… I suddenly remembered how it felt when I weighed 196 lbs.
During the detox week I lost 11.2 lbs; for my Dutch readers: that’s 5,2 kilo. It’s really normal to lose that in one week when you change your diet drastically. One week later I gained 4.6 lbs again just by eating solid food.
I am confident that this juice cleanse was the right thing to do, my whole attitude is different now. The most valuable thing I learned is that I don’t have to eat all the time and that I can function with less food.
My portions are smaller now and I can easily say ‘no’ to food that I like. I am more mature in my choice of food. Before this juice cleanse I acted like a little child: “I want sweet potato fries with my hamburger because I like them and I want them nów and I’m gonna eat them all!”
I must have grown-up during this detox-week because now I think like an adult: “Sure, I like sweet potato fries but the hamburger is enough for now, maybe I’ll order the fries next time.”
I can’t wait for that scale to show me I’ve lost more pounds! I still have a pair of jeans (size 14) that was getting too big when I weighed 196 lbs. That same thing will happen again before the summer of 2014. I promise that to myself now. And to you! 😉
Now I weigh 228.6 lbs (103,7 kilo) and that needs to go down.
But don’t be afraid, I will keep posting yummy recipes. Only I won’t be eating large portions of it, I don’t need it and I don’t want to overeat anymore.
And I liked the juices so much (they were really tasty, yay for The Real Juice!!) that I plan to continue replacing one or two (breakfast / lunch) meals a week with a juice or a smoothie.
Last week I made this yummy and sunny Tropical Smoothie with coconut milk, fresh pineapple pieces, banana and dates. Look at this, how sunny!
