It’s been a while since I made this cake for a meeting of the LA Cake Club. I wanted to keep it really simple and was thinking about making a Dutch apple pie, but it started to itch so I popped in to the kitchen to experiment with new recipes. Continue reading

Nowadays I feel like a super hippie who’s connecting with the earth and I secretly kind of like it. I’ve always been a fan of home made food, to bake my own bread for example or even making hummus or pesto. But lately I thought I had no time to do this, so I bought ready-made hummus and bread which contains much more than just flour, water, salt and yeast.

But since I have created the Pure Food Challenge (which is happening this month) I take time again to make things myself. I’m testing Continue reading

I can’t believe I haven’t even told you yet about that one Friday night that I had to take P to the ER. But fear not… he has been walking around again!

It happened in the evening at 9pm, we were preparing the guest room and we had just received a new internet modem. I was in the bedroom and P was busy connecting the modem in the living room. Suddenly I hear him Continue reading

Grilled radicchio salad with prosciutto and nectarines

Ever since I was a child I love bitter flavors. Okay, but to be honest: only when they are combined with something sweet or salty.

When I was a little girl still my love for bitter flavors resulted Continue reading

Green tea and strawberry popsicles

Green tea & strawberry popsicles, a great dairy free snack! | in my Red Kitchen – Click here for this recipe in Dutch -> Groene thee & aardbei ijsjes

On social media I see a lot of people talking about that summer is coming to an end (well surprise… not in LA! 😉 ), but be honest, do you really need to use summer as an excuse to eat popsicles?!

Last weekend we were in Las Vegas, which is a four hours drive from LA and it’s located in the middle of the desert in Nevada. Summer is still in full swing, and desert + summer = way too hot! Jeez, that wasn’t fun… It was 107 degrees Fahrenheit, and ‘fortunately’ Continue reading

Israeli couscous with tomatoes and zucchini

Couscous with tomatoes, zucchini and ground beef. A delicious kitchen sink meal! | by 'in my Red Kitchen' – Click here for this recipe in Dutch -> Parel couscous met tomaten en courgette

A kitchen sink meal doesn’t sound very appealing to me. But appearantly that’s an American thing, this kitchen sink meal. This meal often comes in the form of a salad or soup, and it’s made after cleaning out the fridge and cupboards. This way produce waste doesn’t need to go down the kitchen sink, through the waste shredder. Have I told you yet that I love that thing? It’s also Continue reading

Food Truck Tuesday – Salted caramel ice cream sandwich

Double chocolate salted caramel ice cream sandwiches, dangerously delicious! | in my Red Kitchen – Click here for this recipe in Dutch -> Salted caramel ijs sandwiches

Before we moved to LA I already started to follow a couple of restaurants, food trucks and LA food bloggers on Twitter. And because of that I looked forward to our move even more! There was so much to discover in LA.

One of the food trucks that I was already following on Twitter & Instagram was Coolhaus. Coolhaus makes ice cream sandwiches. Ice and cookies = ice cream sandwich. Or: one of the most delicious things on earth. Ice cream in combination with something doughy is always a good plan: ice cream with pancakes, cake with ice cream or ice cream in a big cone. Or with cookies of course because… how brilliant is that? Just scoop some ice cream to taste between two soft cookies to taste, that’s exactly what Coolhaus does. On our fifth day in LA, I already ate my first Continue reading

Meyer lemon sorbet prosecco cocktail

Lemon sorbet prosecco cocktail, yay for summer! | in my Red Kitchen – Click here for this recipe in Dutch -> Citroen sorbet scroppino cocktail

My mouth is half numb while I type this because I just came back from the dentist. It was the third Wednesday in a row that I had to be there. Or well, ‘had to be there’…

The first time I was there for a checkup after not seeing a dentist for 1.5 years. So now there is a lot that needs to be done, according to my American dentist. After an extensive checkup where fourteen pictures (both X-ray and normal) were made, I walked out the door with an extensive Continue reading

Salmorejo – chilled tomato soup

Salmorejo, a Spanish chilled tomato soup that's so much better than Gazpacho! | in my Red Kitchen – Click here for this recipe in Dutch -> Salmorejo – koude tomatensoep

What is a person without friends? Not much in my case. It’s so fun though, moving to the other side of the world with just your husband and spending lots of time together. But of course I also need to do things with friends: going to see a movie, going for a walk around the block or simply meeting for coffee.

Those moment are important for talks about all things women. Dieting, running a household, clothes… you know the drill. Things that P doesn’t care about, because why should he care when I walked out of the beauty salon with a bloody Continue reading
