You know it’s fall when you’re craving chickpea soup with spinach! This soup is one of my favorites as it has two of my favorites: chickpeas and spinach!

6-year old Ellen would have never thought that spinach would be one of 32-year old Ellen’s favorites 😉 I hated spinach, as well as lots

Warning: this might be the shortest blog post ever written bij me. I have 0.0 inspiration right now because it’s way too hot to think in LA. I am so glad that I don’t have a real job, because I’m totally worthless right now.

I have just moved my laptop to the dining table where an air conditioner is hanging next to it. Of course it helps a bit, but for a few days now I walk

All my life I have been eating pearl onions, or ‘silver onions’ as we call them in the Netherlands. But this is the first time I’ve hold them in my hands in their own raw shape.

You see, in the Netherlands these pearl onions are pickled and sold in cans. I love anything pickled! So when the lovely people at Frieda’s sent me a bag of pearl onions I wanted to pickle them, just like the ones I used to snack on in the Netherlands.

My husband doesn’t like goat cheese. Poor me! I know, i know… I shouldn’t complain because I can cook something with goat cheese for myself and give him a substitute.
And sometimes I do that, but it is more like a salad or pasta topped with goat cheese, or this sweet potato and kale mash. I give him bacon or prosciutto and I get to eat all the goat cheese, yay!

Roasted gorgonzola pears with farro salad

Roasted-gorgonzola-pears-with-farro-salad-4-inmyredkitchen Tell me, do you always bring your own bags to the store when you go grocery shopping?

If not, then why not?
I always have one or two cotton bags in my purse and I also try to keep a bigger grocery bag in the back of my car. As long as I can remember I carry the cotton bags in my purse and I not only use them for unexpected grocery shopping.

Food Truck Tuesday: California hot dog

Aaaaaand… another one! I already promised you a second hot dog recipe. For this second edition of Food Truck Tuesday I was planning to make the Chili dog I had at our first visit of an LA food truck.

And right before I was planning to make them we ran into the Dogtown Dogs truck again, this time at the LACMA at a Sunday when we went to the La Brea Tar Pits. We were into a small and quick lunch at 3pm. Yes, on Sundays we always take it slow and easy 🙂

Vietnamese spring rolls with black pepper tofu

I love these fresh Vietnamese spring rolls. Sure, I also love them fried but a fresh one is healthier and quicker to make.

If you go to a Dutch market you will definitely find a food truck that sells fried Vietnamese spring rolls. It was always a treat if my mom bought these for us on the market on Wednesdays. On Wednesdays you have the afternoon off at elementary school, so when we came home at 12.30pm my mom sometimes bought us fried spring rolls and fresh steamed baozi for lunch.

And still, every time I eat a fried spring roll

Green Frittata

Sometimes you know you need to step down for a moment.

Just take a step back and rest or change something in your way of living. After all these hectic months of saying goodbye to our live in Amsterdam en figuring out how living in Los Angeles works I finally feel we have settled in.

Life is never boring at the West Coast, unless you lock yourself up every night at your house 😉

But since my life finally has become more relaxed I have time to think about my way of eating again.
