I wanted to share his recipe with you last week but I happened to have a few bad days (stupid hormones!) and our home server on which I’m keeping my photos broke down suddenly so I couldn’t edit them.

But a new week means new opportunities, so here it is: Cauliflower mash with boursin! I had often heard of it but never tried it myself. That’s because I am not so fond of cauliflower, but I found out last summer that cauliflower is so delicious when roasted (see Miso roasted cauliflower)!

For New Years we went a few days to a cabin in the mountains with friends. Snowy mountains that is, yes even in California!! On the day we drove up the mountains we found ourselves in a huge snow storm. That storm was

Last year I had a lot of fun participating in the annual The Great Food Blogger Cookie swap. Yes, that’s right. That’s a cookie exchange among food bloggers.

The rules are simple. You sign up. You will receive the addresses of three other food bloggers. You bake three dozen cookies. Cookies that you wrap up well and that you send by post to the other three food bloggers. In return, you get three boxes of 12 cookies sent home, by random food bloggers. So much fun, and also very delicious!

But the best part of this cookie swap?

Are you also so tired lately? I can take a nap every day and every night I fall asleep on the couch around 11pm. That sounds very early to me as we normally go to bed around midnight 😉

I think it’s an end-of-the-year fatigue because I especially suffer from it on cold and rainy days. And I’m looking forward to

I don’t think I’ve even heard of kimchi while living in the Netherlands. But thankfully LA is a melting pot of cultures so right after moving here I was introduced to kimchi.

Kimchi is a Korean side dish made of fermented vegetables. Many vegetables and spices are used to made into kimchi but the most well known one is kimchi made of napa cabbage fermented in kochukaru. Kimchi is eaten as a side dish, served raw with rice and Korean barbecue. But you can also make some delicious fried rice with it! Next week I’ll share that recipe.

Is the first thing you think ‘yuck’ when you

Not that long ago I received a message from a good friend who is a photographer and studio manager for a well-known brand. Did I want to bake cookies…

Bake cookies? Of course! She needed cookies for a photo shoot with a little girl. Of course she could go to the store to buy cookies but she thought I might like it to bake the cookies. Well, you bet I will!

I told you before that I like to go hiking every week in the Santa Monica Mountains. “Hiking” is nothing more than walking up and down the mountains as a workout. ‘My’ trail is a paved path that leads to a boy scouts camp. It takes me 45 minutes to walk there, so every week I spend 1.5 hours on hiking.

I love it! I enjoy the nature, it’s peace and views over the city and sea. And it’s also cheaper than going to a gym 😉

But… that nature also has a downside. A few weeks ago while I was back on the way down, I saw

My friend Simone from Simone’s Kitchen is a lucky girl! After she asked me to write a recipe for her blog during her vacation, I had so much inspiration that I came up with two recipes. I didn’t know which one I had to give it to her, so I sent her both recipes.

Last week you could already read about the Guacamole with beet and apple, but this week we’re giving you the recipe for a Mexican shredded beef salad.
And oh boy, this one came out delicious! For a while now this recipe was on my ‘to make’ list that I keep in my phone.

That is actually a list that is getting bigger rather than shorter, so hold on tight! There’s a lot of goodies coming because I want to make everything of course 😉
I got the idea for the Mexican shredded beef salad in a modern dinner here in LA. We have been there twice and I ordered their brisket salad both times. I am always a huge fan of trying something new but I can not guarantee that the next time I’m there I’m not ordering the brisket salad 😉

So buy a piece of brisket and go visit Simone’s Kitchen for my recipe for Mexican shredded beef salad.
Enjoy!

Brussels sprouts. Something I didn’t like when I was young, I should believe my mother. But I can’t remember that I ever ate Brussels sprouts when I was little so I honestly wouldn’t know it.

Maybe it’s just a thing you know, kids don’t like Brussels sprouts. Brussels sprouts are ‘yuck’ so kids don’t eat it.

But now I know better. You too? Because

Today you can find a new recipe by me on the blog of Simone, Simone’s Kitchen.

Simone herself is vacationing for a month with her lazy ass in Indonesia and she asked me to write a guestblog for during her absence. No I’m kidding. Not about the guest blog but about her lazy ass. Simone is one of the hardest working people I know, and I often think, ‘How does she do it ?’.
Muchos respectos for Simone and I hope they are enjoying their vacation immensely!!

You should follow her Facebook page, I already saw some nice pictures from Indonesia passing by.

And after that you should go to Simone’s Kitchen for my recipe for Guacamole with beet and apple!

A surprising combination that is oh so yummy. And also perfect for Fall, right?
